Would you consider yourself to be a procrastinator or a planner? Procrastinators are people who put things off, regularly. There are multiple situations and actions that people are always putting off, actions such as work, homework, projects. Situations like being reluctant to tell the truth and not wanting to speak of your feelings. Unlike doers, they are therefore the people that get their responsibilities done in a timely manner. See, some people may not think of how bad procrastination is, and how getting these responsibilities done is beneficial to yourself and your life, thus, I will provide the understanding.
At times, we tend to postpone our duties because we do not want to face the “challenge” because we’re afraid of the result. I believe that the task has more to do with mental status rather than being “physically” incapable. More importantly, I came across an article called “Why You Put Things Off Until the Last Minute”by the McLean Hospital. In this article some of the topics covered are why procrastination is inferior and how putting things aside is linked to your mental health. We’re all aware of how mental health can affect us. We can be weary, gloomy, and introverted. In the same way procrastination can actually be a cause of depression, can increase anxiety levels, and create low-self esteem. If you didn’t notice how procrastination is influencing your mental health then consider reading the article provided because why would you want to increase these risks? Why would you want to influence laziness when laziness has no correlation with procrastinating?
However, doers are the total opposite. Yes, both procrastinators and doers can be active people, except when the doer actually gets everything done right away, their chances of obtaining more activities escalates. Despite the rise in mental health pollution the procrastinator assists on, the completion of a task makes you more motivated and positively affects your life. There are numerous benefits to doing, other than waiting. In ways that you have the advantage of changing your life through encouraging ways. For example, working on your social skills by getting out and having the ability to be more gregarious; watching a TV show that you have always wanted to watch but never could because you had other efforts to achieve. But when you get something done right away you’ll finally be able to do what you wanted to do. In contrast you wouldn’t get the luxury of that because you’d have too much to finish off because you’ve put so much aside.
Following this, I’m often quizzical about the fact that people can’t just get affairs done. For me I enjoy achievement in completion because then sooner or later I’d be able to participate in other stuff. For some reason everything turns out to be more homespun. You don’t have to become irritable and paranoid that you have so much to complete. If anything I become inundated if I don’t complete something. Which is different from those who make procrastination a habit. There are those types of procrastinators who don’t care that they’re procrastinating, and other procrastinators who are aware of the problem but don’t know how to stop. They’d ask themselves “why do I procrastinate so much?” or “why do I keep procrastinating even though I know that it’s bad for me?” What they don’t know is that they can alter the way they think by reading up on tips on how to solve procrastination, like breaking the tasks into small, manageable steps. This will help incredibly because then you won’t feel so overwhelmed. There too are lots of signs that help you distinguish a procrastinator and a doer. For example, if someone struggles to make a deadline or procrastinates on a daily basis, just know that this person is a procrastinator or will futuristic-ally become one. In correlation my mom used to constantly scuffle with cleaning the house. There was a lot to clean and she didn’t know where to begin. It is believed that this really made her anxious to the point where she wouldn’t do it at all. In addition, over the years it has gotten worse. Some people may not realize that their procrastination affects other people around them. In this case my brother was affected in a way that he is not clean in the slightest bit. He may take 2 showers a day but does not clean anything else. This is definitely the guidance of my mother. Even the effect of procrastination impacts the people surrounding them and brings those people down as well. Anyways, I believe I am a doer. This is due to when I am assigned projects or homework assignments I like to get them done immediately. Accomplishing these assignments makes room for improvement in other areas of my life. If I do not complete these assignments by the deadline, or do it at the last minute, my anxiety will rise. And that is my point to procrastination. Overall No matter the importance the task or activity would be put aside.
In the end, some people don’t want to accept that they’re procrastinating but in reality they are. Procrastination is a problem that can impact your day to day life. Try being a doer and see where that’ll take you. As a result, considering everything discussed, can you now answer the question as to If you’re a procrastinator or a doer?
